The only nag I have is that you didn't correct the aspect-ratio of your 3D scopes... it makes them look squashed in non-square windows, and it's a real shame because the texer and scope work is amazing.
A list of things that should've been.
- Aspect ration correction, eventhough ~ unconed already pointed out this, it really is that important to be pointed out again. All of these nifty preset just look absolutly horrid in non-square resolutions.
- Too many projectglobal-clones, syncing lots of scopes used to be cool, but with global variables it's really just something that you do if you need to. Building a lot of presets based purely on syncing a lot of different things together quickly become rather boring.
- Low frame-rate, even if people do have powerhouse PC's you should still take frame-rate into consideration more often, because it's not 100% sure thing that a preset will run fast no matter how good the users pc is also some presets require quite high fps before they unleash their full potential.
- Music reaction needs to be tweaked, because other than the vibrating & flashing parts the music reactions are not so good. You could atleast add some kind of volume control to your random rotation speed changes etc., because just "rot=rand(10)/100-0.05" on-beat doesn't quite cut it.
- I was told this pack would hold up some serious 1337 scoping, but when i started to look at them i noticed the coding techniques have a lot of common with my own and thus aren't very advanced
Well on to the preset-by-preset review.
Intro - Quite nice, i especially like the rings and how they react.
cubic spectrum - Not your average cube preset, but still doesn't quite rise up to the par. Also i think those zooming movements are quite unnecessary. A more simple, stylistic and most important faster design would've been better i think.
crater - Very clever preset, but lack of aspect ratio correction makes this preset break somewhat in non-square resolutions.
take it and leaf - Leafnage pwnage! Resemblences a lot of nemo's stuff, but not so fps friendly unfortunaly. Still one of my favourites of the pack.
something fierce - Very duo like indeed, but the background is a bit too rough (for my taste atleast). The scopage is nice, but otherwise it feels like just another project-global clone.
string theory - Great preset, but you didn't fix the particle sizes to resolution?
Cellulite - I still think the version i made is better
flow of music - Good idea, nice background, but the notes render on top of each other which makes the whole thing look rather messy
malevolent shattering - Could've needed some more "life" to it as it is pretty static now. Needs something to "flow" out of the ground
nebulous ii - Nice color combo though im not too keen on the use of interleave
amythest - Okay, you really need something to cut out those lines that result if the cubes go too high on the screen. Otherwise, im diggin' it.
poco animato - One word: Particlesizefixonresolutiondude.
Satellite nation - Well when it comes to the p.g.c.'s this one is one of the better ones. Not a shabby job on it. Still basics like aspect-ratio correction and particle size fix apply to this one too.
chromis - Looks a lot like fsk's remix of a skupers metaball preset (or was it the other way around? can't remember) Anyway it's a metaball preset, what else can i say?
demo - Aesthetic goodness. Just that
moonshine - So sluggish
Flowers - Nice scoping, but the flowers could be a bit more "alive" imo.
Rivierra - p.g.c. I like blue though and background is nice.
Project Global II - Fps is decent, color usage is nice, background is cool and music reaction is good enough too. Better than the clones.
Well all in all it's a good pack, but it could've been so much better and in it's current state with all the things that need fixing i don't think i can give it a
btw. as a side note im not devwatching you anymore, nothing personal and nothing to do with this pack, I just removed everyone from my watch after my "breakdown". Just in case if you want to edit that intro comment of yours
Rather than listing all my favorites, I thought it would be easier to crituque the few that just didn't hit my sweet spot.
----------
- crater: Honestly, I just plain don't understand it. There's parts about it that I like, but as a whole it just doesn't do anything for me.
- something fierce: While I absolutely love your work with scopes, especially in this one, the background is a little too harsh. Unfortunately, I just think it brings down the overall value of the preset, even with such great scopes.
- chromis: I really like metaballs presets, I think they're just too cool. The only grudge I have with this is the ugly XOR blending.
- moonshine: As much as I want to like this, I simply can't. And not because it isn't good, I know it is, I've seen the original. The problem I have is that I get a record low of four fps. I certainly hope that wasn't intended, and maybe it's just this shitty computer, but if it weren't for that, I would love this preset. The odd thing is, it's the only one in the whole pack.
-----------
Overall this is a great pack, more than I had expected. I would agree with Tuggummi and UnConed about the aspect corrections, but while I don't normally concern myself with that unless absolutely necessary, as you guys obviously do, it's not a major concern with me. I've got nothing against you of course, it's just my opinion that if it ain't broke, don't fix it! And these all seem to work fine to me.
Also, I'm honored that you decided to include my remix. So thank you very much for that.
